  • My Little Princess.... and my crazy life

Wow - only a week of school left for the semester! As of the first week in June - after three fabulous weeks in labour and delivery - I can call myself a third year nursing student! woo hoo I have known for awhile that pediatrics was my area of interest, and after my experience this week I am positive that is where I want to work.

As for my week.... my little princess spent 4 days in hospital this week with a bladder infection. She had to have a catheter put in and she was on IV antibiotics for about 48 hours.... poor wee thing! She is home and happy now, but she has to go for more testing in a few weeks. They did an ultrasound of her kidneys and found hydronephritis (fluid backing up into the kidney causing it to swell...) that can be caused by infection or it can be caused by many other things, so when Akira is clear of infection, she has to go have a few tests done to see if the fluid is gone... After spending 4 days on the peds floor - I am so excited about being a peds nurse!!!! Peds nurses are wonderful!

Isaac was so glad to have his "baby" back home again... he has been kissing her and holding her hand non-stop. Well.... I suppose I should be studying - or sleeping  ttfnIMG_1458

  • Life as a Mommy of 2

Wow! How the time flies. I have been a mommy of 2 for almost 3 weeks already. Little Akira Mercy Balazs made her appearence on Feb. 2 at 7:58 am. Her coming will be memorable, as we were having a snow/ freezing rain storm when I went into labour. The drive to the hospital normaly takes about an hour, and that night it tooks us closer to two. Nick just kept pleading with me not to have her in the car!

I was very blessed to once again have a short and easy labor and delivery. We arrived at the hospital at about 4:30 am and like I said before Akira arrived before 8. She "popped out" in 2 contractions - a far cry from the 2 hours of pushing with Isaac!!! I was even able to cut the cord.

Isaac is adjusting very well to being a big brother. He is my little helper - he burps Akira and sings to her and brings me diapers and wipes - he is my sweet big boy. Lindsay is more interested in boys these days than in her new little sibling - but she is always willing to lend a hand whenever we ask.

Nick and I will be taking a trip to Baltimore over my spring break - it's only a week away - yay. I know my little ones will be showered with lovin' from Grammy and Grandad! Nick and I will get to have a little time on our own - thanks to the grandparents.

Well, that's me in a nutshell - now it's back to the books before the princess wakes up and wants to eat.IMG_1663

  • The countdown to 2008

IMG_1180 Wow! I can't believe '07 is almost over! Where did this year go? My kids are going to be in high shool before we know it at this rate. It really has been a wonderful year. I wouldn't change a thing.

I have started the hospital job, and I really enjoy it - I almost feel guilty taking the high pay for such an easy job!   I am hoping to pick up a few more shifts before shcool starts again, and after that we will see how quickly baby #2 decides to make an appearance.

We have allready had a very snowy winter - and it has only just begun. It is beautiful, but it does concern me a little as far as our ability to get to the hospital on time (Nick has allready put the car in the ditch twice). Isaac really seems to enjoy the snow and would spend all day outside if we let him.

Lindsay flew out to BC on Christmas eve to be with her mom for the holidays. She was supposed to leave on the 21st, but our family was stricken with a nasty stomach bug, so we weren't in anyshape to do any travelling... Nick and Isaac and I spent Christmas day with his parents, where Isaac was spoiled to death! He actually played with some of the toys he got and not just the paper.

I pray that you all will have a wonderful New Year, and I look forward to what 2008 will bring!!!!

  • The last 2 months

IMG_1494 Wow I can't believe what a slacker I've been! Well, slacker on here anyway - life has been insanely busy!

Let's see if I can put it in a nutshell....

Nick's grandpa passed away at the beginning of November. He died peacfully in his sleep at home in his own bed. The funeral was beautiful - the Canadian legion was there and perfromed final taps and we all placed poppies on the casket as Pappa Joe was a decorated vet of WWII.

Nick has been spending all his spare minutes (which are few and far between) working on Lindsay's room so that Isaac can finally move out of our room. He has about 40 more days before the new baby comes, as I refuse to share a room with 2 babies!

Lindsay is experiencing her first major "crush" his name is Steele and that is all we hear about these days! (much to our relief Steele is not "crushing" on Lindsay). She has also joined Sea Cadets and loves it. They just had there formal Christmas dinner at the Legion where they were able to practice there best table manners.

Isaac is, well, Isaac. Busy, whirlwind, crazy, goofy, are just some of the words that best describe my boy. We are so excited to watch him grow into a sweet (though opinionated) little boy. He is so good natured most of the time, but boy does he have a temper! His favorite thing to do is to go to the pool. He has no fear of the water and has taught himself how to blow bubbles - it's hilarious! Poor little guy has no idea that his days as mamma's only baby are numbered!

I have been juggling shcool. housework, and mommyhood. I am really glad that my last exam was yesterday, so that I can let my brain relax for a few weeks. The Lord was very good, and I have finished the term with good marks inspite of my baby brain. Nick and Lindsay have been great at entertaining Isaac on those evenings that I needed to study or write papers. I am actually starting a job at the hospital tomorrow. I will be a "sitter" which is basically a care aide. I have 2 orientation shifts and then I am "casual" so I only work when I want to. I really enjoy being in the hospital and I hope that I will be a blessing to the patients!

Please lift up my mom and dad in prayer. My dad lost his job on Tues. Please pray that the doors will be opened for a good paying job with good medical coverage! They are supposed to come here for the birth of baby girl Balazs, so I hope that ther are still able to do that!

  • One More Sleep

Only one more sleep until Grammy and Grandad are here. I know Isaac doesn't understand, but I am excited that he will get to have a visit with his grandparents.

If all you prayer warriors out there would lift up Nick's Grandpa, we would appreciate it. He was diagnosed with leukemia yesterday. In the next week he will be travelling to Saint John to discuss treatment and he will possibly be hospitalized. I think it is kind of neat that he may be in Saint John, because that is the hospital where I do my clinical, so I will be able to keep an eye on him...

Nick's dad is playing bass in a fundraiser for Lindsay's school tonight, so we are all going to see grandpa play. I know Isaac will love it as he is the music king - he has an uncontrolable urge to dance any time he hears music.

Well, I should be cleaning and organizing, but this is much more enjoyable...
